Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge
June 29-30, 2013 during the Fishers Freedom Festival
The Fishers Freedom Festival, Town of Fishers Fire Department and Indiana University Health Saxony Hospital will be hosting the regional Scotts Firefighter Combat Challenge (FCC) on June 29-30, 2013 during the Fishers Freedom Festival.
The mission of the FCC is to promote and showcase the talents, skills and athleticism of America’s firefighter heroes in an exciting and entertaining sports competition. The FCC travels to approximately 25 locations throughout the country every year simulating many of the essential skills of firefighting. Some of the skills showcased are climbing a five story tower in full gear, dragging and hoisting a fire hose, racing around obstacles and simulating forcible entry. The FCC motivates, identifies and celebrates America’s “best of the best” firefighters. After years of coverage on ESPN and the Versus television network, the FCC is widely followed by the firefighter community, the general public and the news media around the country as they search for “good news” stories to cover in their local communities. At any given regional competition, 75 to 175 competitors will participate in the FCC. Spectator attendance is likely to reach 5,000 to 10,000 people throughout the competition.
We also welcome The Kids’ Combat Challenge to Fishers. Targeting kids ages 4-11, the Kids’ Firefighter Challenge is miniaturized version of its adult counterpart. The Kids’ Firefighter Challenge is an exciting adventure for any child that ever wanted to put on some fire gear and squirt a real fire hose. Children can register for the Kids’ Firefighter Challenge on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Photo-ops abound and taking away a memory is a priceless experience for both kids and their parents.
Donations of canned food and new toys will be collected for a local pantry in Fishers.
Volunteers are needed for this event. Volunteers will need to sign in and sign out at the Information Tent.
Firefighter Combat Challenge Schedule of Events
The individual competition starts Saturday, June 29 at 10:30AM. The tandem and team relays begin Sunday, June 30 at 9AM. Firefighters competing in the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge®, will be competing in a five-evolution event, which includes a 5-story tower climb with high-rise pack, hose hoist, forcible entry, hose advance, and victim rescue. Competitions shall include individual, team, tandem, and relay. Firefighters will vie for times, points, and placement qualifying them for the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge® World Challenge, to be held in October or November 2013.
